After reading the mixed reviews on Yelp, my husband and I decided to try this place. I must say, we had a great experience! We were seated right away at a lovely table for 2 on the patio, even though we did not have a reservation. Our very polite and pleasant waiter came right over and gave us menus, and told us about the specials. We ordered drinks which came out promptly. For our appetizer, we ordered the black and white pasta with shrimp and scallops. Everything was cooked to perfection. The dish was DELISH! My husband had the veal and I had the chicken with eggplant. Equally delicious. Nice ambiance, great staff, wonderful food. Will definitely be back!

Went with my husband for dinner last night. 9 pm reservation which I was concerned about since I was told they were practically sold out, but we were seated inside a few mins early. Loved the decor and interesting people but soon realized how LOUD the noise level was in the room. We were at a table for 2 in middle of room with a party of 8 behind us in the corner. They were enjoying themselves but yelling so loud I couldn't believe it. I've seen other reviews about noise level and can't believe it's the same rude party of 8 so there must be some inherent problem with the design that causes this problem. Perhaps it's the large cut out "windows" in the walls? I watched a group seated after us change tables twice. The table next to us talked about leaving shortly after they were seated. Even our waiter was holding his ears and grimacing at one point. It's too bad because the food was good. We enjoyed the mozzarella and tomatoes and z delicious asparagus, prosciutto and fontina cheese appetizer. My grilled shrimp and vegetable entree was good and light enough for a late meal and my husband's veal limon entree was good. Odd though that you can only get potatoes and not pasta with entrees. Service was okay I had to ask for the glass of wine I ordered (however I appreciated the taste of wine the waiter let me sample before committing)and had to ask for some freshly ground pepper which was not offered even though pepper mill was nearby. Bread was also delicious but had to ask bread boy for another rather than being offered. The noise level would definitely keep me from returning and kept us from ordering dessert. There is outside seating available perhaps that's the better choice.

We had an excellent Italian meal here, sitting in the perfect spot right on the porch. Our server was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed all aspects of our meal. To start the lamb shanks are very tasty and cooked to perfection, a perfect braise! All the pasta dishes are cooked right, try out the funghi pasta, you won't be disappointed! Is it the BEST Italian you have ever had? No, but it sure is a great meal in a fun little beach town and lives up to the expectation of a great meal. I read some of the reviews about the service and have to say we had NO issues whatsoever.

The best value brunch in all of Rehoboth! We sat outside on the porch, it was just delightful. Bright, breezy and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. The food was amazing; there were four us, and we ordered the following: Eggs Benedict French Toast Omelette Pesto Ravioli (and a Bloody Mary) Between ordering and the meal being served, the waiter brought a basket of warm pastries - they were fresh, light and a good assortment. This is by far the BEST VALUE brunch in town. Where else can four adults go in this town and be able to dine in exceptional food with exceptional service, in a lovely atmosphere, for around $15 a head. If I could reserve the round table on the porch every week, I would!!!! Easily 5 stars for brunch!

I've been here many times for brunch, but today they missed the mark. The pastry platter was skimpy consisting of 8 pieces, and the muffin (still half frozen) was cut into four. It was the first time I encountered this. The fritatta was average at best. The waiter said the chef was having an off day, but if I were a first time diner, I would not been impressed. Spoke with the manager, and he assured us that things would be better next time.

Broken sauce on the veal meatballs. No flavor. They need a better chef. Service was good. Bar pours are $13.00 a piece. There are a lot better place to eat on Rehoboth.

Four of us went to Zebra during restaurant week. We go there several times a season, so we are pretty familiar with the place. I just have to say we were all really disappointed. The service was super slow and the bill was a total bust. The only thing we could decide was that the restaurant must have doubled the price of the alcohol. No more dinners at Zebra for us. It is nit worth the money!!

The food was OK, the service was OK, but not at a price of $70.00 per person. The pasta was over cooked, not al dente, would not go back again.

I am so glad I never checked the reviews on this restaurant, otherwise I probably would gave never gone and missed a wonderful dining experience. We had a party of 3 on a Tuesday evening, had no trouble parking and we were promptly seated at a lovely porch table. Only complaint was the view of the construction across the street and the occasional cloud of dust that would kick up when a car passed by going beyond a reasonable speed limit girl these tiny streets! Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived, with just the tight amount of checking in with us, refilling water and wine glasses, clearing the table etc. I had a veal dish and while the veal was wonderfully tender the sauce was just ok. Other dining companions had rockfish (excellent) and a beef filet which was another home run. Portions were a little on the small side, yet were adequate. Expensive? Yes, but we felt the quality and overall experience if a more upscale dining experience was worth it and we will most definitely return on our next visit to Rehoboth.

I've had better Lean Cuisines. The sauce had no flavor and was equal to something you'd make in a high school cooking class. $25 for cheese ravioli that was slopped on the plate. Zero presentation. Zero taste. Enough said.

Service was attentive. Carpaccio appetizer was very good. The Saltimbocca was very tough and salty. Not great! My husband had the veal marsala and it was prepared well. The side vegetables were very slim. Only one asparagus, two small roasted red potatoes and three haricot verts. We will come back and try again. Has potential...-

I ate here last season and it was excellent. This time it was flavorless. The pasta with mushrooms and truffle oil lacked any seasoning or flavoring. For $30 I was expecting so much more.

Nice atmosphere for a first date. A Bit overpriced but great flavor. Have not been here for a long time and I'm a local. My friend enjoyed her first time @ Zebra. 3 course fixed menu was the best deal $35.00. Nice pour on the Wine by glass.

I'm so lost for this review. It could be four stars, it could be 2. 3 it is. It started with the parking. Lack. Lack of parking. Lack of parking to the point that we passed the restaurant 30 minutes before our reservation, and we were still late. Permit parking only, 30 minute parking, no parking, private drive.... it was a nightmare. I will say that this alone is a reason I will avoid, like the plague, ever going back again. Is this the fault of the restaurant? meeeeeh... maybe. But also this "punishment" applies to all things Rehoboth. I don't know how a town that's supposed to be tourist friendly can hate parking soooo much. We parked on a residential street with a sign that said Permit Only, deciding we'd just pay the ticket. We didn't get ticketed. Arrived at 8:05 for our 8pm reservation on the deck. Table for 6 was ready. We watched our other 4 drive by 3 times looking for a spot. Did I mention parking in Rehoboth sucks? Before I start on the service, let me say it was too attentive, just the right attentive, and where the hell is our waiter all rolled into one. We ordered wine. They poured the first round and left the bottle. Every time we reached for the bottle to refill a random waiter/waitress/hostess/manager jumped on us and confiscated the bottle. They insisted on pouring. PS... 4 out of the 6 of us are waitstaff and bartenders. We can pour our own wine. Menus. Not left on the table, you had to be present to get one. When the rest of our party parked it was 10 minutes to get them menus because the waiter wouldn't leave them. Anyway... food. Apps were all good. The vodka tortelini was the best I've ever had. The waiter thought I was insane when I ordered my NY Strip medium rare, no sauce, charred. Meat and a plate... thats all I want. Cook it to rare and set it on fire for a minute. Simple? Food comes. He never checked on us again. I was done my steak before he came back. A lady I presumed to be the hostess or manager was on top of our dirty dishes. All in all... it was OK. Didn't blow my mind. For me it wasn't good enough to deal with the parking.

First, review the restaurant, not the parking. We had a 7 PM reservation and parked out front. Granted it was a Thursday night, but if you're in town and it's the weekend, it's an easy walk from just about anywhere north of Dewey. The food was impeccable. I had a penne alla martriciana, and it was perfectly al dente. My wife had the mussels, and again, perfectly done. I had the red snapper special, and it was spectacular. She had the lobster risotto, and coming from New England, we know a good one. It was again wonderful, with an enormous amount if lobster in it. As for the service - great service includes never having to pour your own glass, so I don't know what kinds of places the last reviewer and friends work at (I have been a server, too). Only in America are servers expected to display any kind of unique personality and be conversational. And it's annoying to the rest of the world. So basically, the place lives up to admittedly steeper prices than the rest of town. And now you've been warned - walk or allow yourself lots of time to park. Enjoy!

If you like spending an obscene amount of money for piss poor Italian, this restaurant is perfect. Otherwise, go to Lingo's, buy a box of pasta, cook it, let it cool to the point where it's inedible, pour half a jar of Prego over it and serve it to your family. Maybe undercook a handful of mussels and toss them on top and call it 'seafood linguine with arrabiata.' There is a serious management problem when the customer is spending a grand and the GM refuses to sub a side salad for the house vegetable included with the main entree. Kill yourself. Immediately. If you must go here, the clam chowder was ok. The scallops were goodish. And the eggplant was tasty. Do NOT order the veal Marsala. Chef boyardee would do a better job out of a can. Look, there are a ton of good options in Rehoboth and the surrounding areas. Go somewhere else.

It's pretty understandable that Zebra can have very mixed reviews. In some regards, I agree with almost every other post. I think it's a hit or miss. I've always had great food there, but the service can make or break the night. Went there this past weekend (Labor Day) on Sunday. Food was excellent, but the service was pretty lacking, which is a big deal to me. FYI, it was 4 of us so not a big group or demanding at all. I'm pretty sure we didn't have a real waiter but rather someone standing in as their foreign wait staff had mostly left town. Given this, the guy was pretty bad. Tried to take our order without giving us menus first and seemed annoyed with the entire operation of serving us. He never checked on us and I had to flag him down multiple times to get a refill of water. I give 4 stars as I have hope that this guy wasn't a waiter and the rest of the regular wait staff are professionals and know what they're doing. I also recognize that in Rehoboth, dependence on foreign staff is high and an obstacle for most businesses, but they need them for the summer. Also, the food was amazing as was the restaurant decor and ambiance. The music wasn't too loud on this evening as one previous poster noted.

First, I don't know how this place gets any 1 star votes. Yes, it is an Italian Restaurant down the beach so if it is seafood you are interested in, while they have some look elsewhere. Food, very good. Pasta dish was great. Steaks were very good. Vegetables were lacking real substance. Desert was amazing. Atmosphere is great both outdoor and indoor. Very beautiful restaurant. My waiter service was very good. Coming from a great restaurant town like Philadelphia this place deserves 4 stars. If you must drive parking will be tough, but it is a beach town so you should expect that. I do think it was on the expensive side. We had a great time, romantic setting, very good dinner. I won't be back for two reasons. Price was a little much and I prefer seafood or more beach like entrees. But we are glad we did it and would recommend if you are looking for Italian and nice ambiance.

This was my second visit to Zebra, and still not impressed. The food is average and the service is poor. We ordered a bottle of wine, which the the waiter continued to dribble across our table and plates with each pour. I disliked my main course. The waiter asked how we enjoyed our dinner, I replied 'not so much.' He said 'I'm sorry' and walked away. Dirty plates kept piling up and were never removed. The atmosphere is enjoyable as is the outdoor seating. If you do head to Zebra - stick to the basics when it comes to ordering and wear black so the splashed wine doesn't destroy your eve!!

Foods pretty good, porch seating is great. Inside very loud. Here is the problem service is really bad, before the season and after the season you can get below average service. During the summer about as bad as it gets.

Disappointing. Food was decent. Red sauce was tasty but nothing fancy - they just put several cloves of garlic in it. I guess I would classify the food here as "red sauce Italian". The service here was horrendous. It took about 15 minutes to get menus. Our waiter even tried to take our order without giving us our menus first. Our appetizer never came, and after pointing this out to the waiter, he insisted that we never ordered one, so we told him to not to bother bringing it anyway since we had already received our main courses. A few minutes later out comes our appetizer and we send it back. It's still on the bill, however. Oh yeah, and someone in our party got the wrong dish. It took 20 additional minutes for the correct dish to come out, so our food was cold by the time we started eating. A few tables down I noticed the waiter informing the table that they had run out of the wine they ordered, but brought over another bottle of wine, uncorked it, and told them he would serve this wine instead. After serving it, he told them it would cost more. I usually don't like to judge a place based on the service, but here it was exceptionally poor and won't return.

This was my fourth trip to Zebra in the last few years: two good experiences and two bad. It's got a great location in town and lovely rooms in an old house. The staff greeted us warmly and except for our waiter were attentive throughout. Based on our experience last night I won't go back. The noise in the restaurant was overwhelming, impossible to carry on a conversation among our party of six. Our waiter's poor English skills and the fact that he stopped to greet each patron who passed the table meant that 2 of our 6 orders were wrong (wrong food) and had to be sent back for replacement. The special soup of heirloom tomatoes and roasted red peppers with Gorgonzola was highly suggestive of canned soup, as disappointing as it was unimpressive. My veal and our friend's steak was cooked very nicely as were the vegetable sides. But the pasta served to others was just bad. The pomodoro might as well have been noodles in soup with cheese piled on top. There is an inexpensive Italian restaurant at the corner of Baltimore and First where we would have had a far better meal. Restaurants in Rehoboth are generally over priced for what you get. Zebra does not disappoint on that point.

The food was good, but you can make any of those dishes at home and possibly better. The service was slow and inconsistent. I've eaten at Zebra at least five times in the past four years, while on vacation, and I don't think this place has improved in fact it has gotten worse.

I was a bit hesitant to go to Zebra after reading some of the negative reviews, however I had one of the best dining experiences in Rehoboth. Food was delicious, came very quickly and was hot. Service was great. Overall duration from arrival to completion of the meal was less than an hour for a table of four. Definitely would come back!

If I believed all the reviews on the net about Zebra I would not have eaten there. I was a U S Diplomat and served in Italy in the 70's and 80's, so I feel qualified to comment on Italian food, especially what is served at Zebra. We had a party of 6, seated on time and got our first courses quickly. The service was first class and so was all the food. It is pricy, but in my opinion it is the best Italian in the city of Rehoboth Beach.

We were expecting the worst when we came here despite reading Ryan's review. We were really in the mood for Italian and willing to "take our chances" -- and I'm glad we did. Our experience here was flawless! Roman was our waiter, and he had no problem when we wanted to switch tables. (Note to those sitting in the leopard room... the tables for two against the wall are right next to the AC vents in the floors.) They give you bruschetta while you wait for dinner, which is always a nice touch. We both had salad for the appetizer, and for some reason it was really good. I usually don't rave about salad -- who does? -- but the balsamic they use is terrific. Since we're vegetarian, we couldn't take advantage of the prix fixe menu, which was $30 for four courses. I got the cheese ravioli and it was AMAZING! They also have a great dessert menu that includes wines, sorbets and gelatos. I can't recommend this place enough!!

This place was great! I didn't check yelp before going and I am glad I didn't read ryans review. I have no complaints about the service except that the waitress tried to sell us on their home made tirimissu. The food was excellent and the ahi tuna was perfectly cooked. My wife had the mushroom and truffle rissoto - also delicious. We did't have reservations and arrived at 7 and were seated immediately. It would be a mistake to pass on this place.

The folks at Zebra apparently take themselves very seriously. Who wouldn't? Gorgeous space, nice outdoor seating, great location. For the customer, that's where it all ends. The food is generally just ok. The service is laughable. Where do I begin? As soon as I heard the server ask my wife to pick up her salad plate so he could put down the main I was completely turned off. Really? At these prices and all the pretentious behavior we have to pick up our salad plates for you to serve the main course? That's waiter training 101. I asked for an additional dinner roll which I did receive-it was placed in the dish to my right which happened to my wife's. Fortunately for me, the guy stood over my left shoulder and asked the gent on that side if he also wanted a roll. Yay! He said yes so I actually did manage to score a roll. Two out of five entrees had to be sent back to the kitchen for various reasons. Even though two of us had ordered prix fixe they only brought out one desert along with a very blank stare when asked about the second one. Enough said. I will save my money and not return to Zebra the next time I am inRehoboth.

I am a low-maintenance and easy-to-please diner. But this place was really disappointing. We were a party of four on a sunday night. Their kitchen was clearly understaffed. They never delivered one of our appetizers. Took almost 2 hours to get our food. One entree was cold. Another was cold and overcooked. The third was mediocre. And the fourth was good. The bill arrived and they charged us in-full for everything including the food that was not delivered. When I complained to the manager about the long wait for food, the cold food, the missing appetizer, etc... he became angry at me. It was astonishing. Keep in mind, this is a nice restaurant with most entrees in the $25-$30 range. He eventually took some of the items off the bill. We will of course never return.

Visited during restaurant week - great food but AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL service. Worst of all management doesn't seem to care. Remember you only get ONE chance to make a FIRST impression. Many restaurants look as this is their time to shine for NEW customers, but sadly this restaurant failed in the service - from the seating to the menu to the noise level and server attention. I own a second home in Rehoboth and eat out a great deal, There are other restaurants which are better and a lot less expensive than Ristorante Zebra. SKIP IT!

OMG, we had dinner here last week and it was so laughably bad that I started looking for hidden tv cameras--I was sure that I was in some kind of Candid Camera/Ashoton Kutcher Punked kind of show. We had 8:00 reservations. My wife and I showed up at 7:50 and went to the bar where there were six patrons seated and one very, very frazzled bartender. He was so deep in the weeds working service bar that after 15 minutes (serioulsy, 15 minutes) we still hadn't been able to order a drink. Finally he looks at me with barely disguised contempt, and takes my order. We move to the table on the porch. It is now 8:10.. not bad for an 8:00 reservation. The waiter shows up right away and says, here are two menus... I can't find any more right now so can you just share? Ummm, this is starting to go downhill really fast. At 9:20, we still had not been able to place our dinner order. When he finally shows up again to take the order, 5 of us order the fish special (hey, we're at the beach! And it's the only fish on the menu). At about 9:45, he comes back and says "Sorry we're out of the fish." Umm, that means you waited 25 minutes to put in our order! So we scramble and order other stuff and, finally about 10:30 we get our dinner (keep in mind this was an 8:00 reservation and we were seated at 8:10). So it's a little after 11 and we're the last ones in the place and--as much out of principle as hunger-- we order desert and coffee (whcih we didn't touch because some kitchens do horrible things to dishes ordered late when they are trying to go home!!!) and the looks we got from staff were rude bordering on incredulous!! The food itself was average at best, but the service was lucdicrously awful. Avoid this place at all costs.

We ate at Zebra last Saturday night. The room had too many tables jammed into it. It was so bad, that a waitress knocked the menu out of my hands and it went flying as she hurried by our table. The room was very noisy to the point of being uncomfortable due to one very DRUNK woman who had an exteremy high pitched laugh and cackle, and screamed every word that came out of her mouth. The DRUNK was so annoying the waitress apologized to us and comped salads for us. We sat at the table for an inordinate length of time before we were handed menus to look at. The drinks were messed up, as I had never seen vodka on the rocks served in a water goblet before. The pork chop my companion ordered came out somewhat raw, and for the first time in 29 years we had to send food back to the kitchen. After a long time period the pork chop finally came back, however it was too well done to the point of being dry. Finally, we were able to enjoy a somewhat civilized moment, when all of the sudden we were thrown into darkness, a deep black hole. Another waitress had turned off the lights. The light switch was next to our table, so we turned the lights back on. A battle ensued between the waitress and my companion over the light switch, finally we prevailed and were able to eat in a lit room. Apparently, the other waitress was going for some theatreatical effect as another table across the room had ordered a bananas foster dessert where they do some flambe action. That was no reason to plunge all the other diners into complete darkness. The kitchen should learn how to cook!! The veal was quite good. We also had dessert that was acceptable. However, for the prices that Zebra charges, they could learn how to cook a pork chop, allow a little more space between the tables, and prevent diners from having to put up with a loud obnoxious drunk in the dining room. I felt sorry for the waitress who tried her best under the circumstances, however, my complaints are mostly about things that were not under her control.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
